A customer from NC, Lexington Home Brand , used our 2" x 8' polished black poles in a recent home show display. The Bambusa family is comprised of many species, but a few of the more widely planted bamboo varieties in the U.S. are Bambusa multiplex varieties, commonly known as 'Hedge Bamboo.' The primary species are Bambusa multiplex 'Alphonse Karr', Bambusa multiplex 'Golden Goddess', and Bambusa multiplex 'Weeping Willow' bamboo. These clumping bamboo species are, like the running bamboo, not particular concerning soil type and the amount of sunlight required. Clumping bamboo trees are planted for use as tall hedges, privacy screens, windbreaks, or for their ornamental beauty. I personally like the look of worn bamboo, so I did not replace any of the poles.

Later Swedish steel and Aluminum poles became more fashionable but serious vaulters continued to search for poles with more flexibility. In the late 1950s, the sport saw the first flexible vaulting poles manufactured with fiberglass and/or carbon fiber. This is one of the major advantages of the fiberglass poles over their bamboo and metal predecessor's.

Depending on how the chair is built, it can be easy to slide the bamboo poles out of place and replace them completely with a new piece. I then slid the tie wrap into place and tightened enough to close the crack but not hard enough to leave an indent in the bamboo pole. I had bamboo pegs that were holding the chair together instead of screws or nails. If your chair has screws or nails, tighten up the screws and check that the nails are well set into the bamboo poles.

Vietnamese culture is regarded as bamboo culture, an old saying going 'when bamboo is old, the new bamboo sprouts appear' symbolising the regeneration of a culture. The cable being used was made from split bamboo or by twisting whole clumps of pliable bamboo together. The walls are made of split and woven bamboo and the slats and poles of bamboo are used as the support. Bamboo stalks are decorated and used as poles. These are used to surround the stairs of shrines and temples to warn of evil. I didn't know of the different types of bamboo and certainly had never heard of black bamboo until now. I'm fond of bamboo and have a bit of it in my own garden here in Ireland, of all places.

According to Van Der Lugt and Lobovikov (2008), the current value of the international bamboo trade is probably between US$1.5 to $3 billion with China as the main supplier, followed by India. The European Union (EU) and USA are the largest importers, accounting for up to 80% of the total bamboo imports. They noted that besides flooring, markets for other engineered bamboo products such as veneer, panels and boards are growing. The stable worlwide demand for wood and the increasing interest in sustainably produced timber further boost the potential market for industrial bamboo products.
